Beer Brew – No 1

Beer Kit

Beer brew was mixed as follows:

The ready made kit consists of Malt Extract and a sugar mix.

This is dissolved in three litres of boiling water.

The fermenting bucket is then filled to 23 litre level and the

Fermenting Bucket With Airlock.

yeast spread along the top.

NO more stirring as this is a Pale Ale which ferments from the top.

The bucket is sealed and the airlock inserted.

This is now kept undisturbed at about 23 deg for 10 days – today is 27 May 2020.

Today is 11 June. It has been cold so we left the Beer Brew to ferment till the airlock was completely stable.

In the mean time we have cleaned and sterilized the bottles in preparation for bottling day.

Upon opening we found the brew to be completely fermented and a good beer smell and taste.

To each bottle of 750 ml was added a teaspoon of sugar. This is for the beer to be primed.

When you add sugar back into your beer the yeast starts to eat the sugar, producing carbonation. This process is called bottle conditioning. By adding the “Priming Sugar”, your beer will become carbonated during the bottle conditioning process giving it that delicious fizzy taste you expect from a good beer.

Now we will wait for the bottled beer to be stored in a warm dark place for two weeks.

Two weeks later and the first beer is opened. A pleasant surprise to find a full body taste and a good froth from the sugar.

Will definitely brew Pale Ale again
